Dirty Pictures (Part 2), Low Cut Connie

Dirty Pictures (Part 2), 2018, Low Cut Connie, :30

★ ★ ★ ★ ☆

I was somewhat familiar with this band, and liked their work, but had never heard this album.  It blew me away!  This is a full set of blistering, but thoughtful and meaningful, old-school rock.  Great work from a very talented band.  Best tracks: "Beverly," "Oh Suzanne."

A New Tide, Gomez

A New Tide, Gomez, 2009, :43

★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆

While I'm a big fan of Bring It On, this album bored me.  Maybe it deserves another chance on the strength of their previous work, but I don't see myself coming back to it again.  Best track: "Airstream Driver."  Its catchiness and verve make it, sadly, an anomaly.

Mistrial, Lou Reed

Mistrial, Lou Reed, 1986, :39.

On my very first post I cheated a little.  I used to own this album back in the cassette tape days.  I remember its corniness with fondness.  Yes, it's a little dated, but it's also got some of the patented Lou Reed wryness and wordplay.  Best tracks: "The Original Wrapper," "Video Violence."
